Be Syrian or Palestinian with a Syrian travel document
If you are unsure if you should apply via a different UWC national committee, please contact us for clarification.
Applicants must be between 16 and 18 years old at the time of enrolment and by 01 September, 2026 for the current application cycle. This typically aligns with students entering the final two years of secondary education, but specific age requirements may vary by UWC school or college.
For ease of reference, please refer to the table below if you are not sure if you meet the age requirement.

Eligible

Not Eligible

Only Eligible if Special Circumstances
Students born between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008 will be only considered if they have been through exceptional circumstances (displacement, disruptions in their schooling, etc.) as a result of the ongoing war in Syria.
The special circumstances that we refer to must have a direct effect on the applicant’s educational journey, in past years and not in the year in which they are applying, that prevented them from applying when they were within the eligible age group.
Most schools have strict age criteria and do not accept students younger than 16 and older than 18 years old. For the few schools that have exceptions, the UWC Syrian National Committee has to make a strong case for students who do not meet the age criterion and we cannot guarantee acceptance by the schools.
Applicants should be currently enrolled in, or have completed, 10th grade.
Applicants must have an above-average academic record. A strong academic record is important, but we also value a demonstrated commitment to learning beyond the classroom.
While academic excellence is important, UWC seeks students who exhibit:
UWC schools and colleges primarily use English as the language of instruction. While fluency is not required at the time of application, applicants are advised to attain a basic proficiency in English and demonstrate a willingness to improve their language skills.
