Aa great education can transform lives, yet too many people are still missing out.
That’s why UWC does things differently. We think that a quality education shouldn’t just be reserved for those with wealth or connections. We believe that those with the drive and compassion to change the world should be given the chance to shine.
So why do you have a selection process?
A UWC education is open to anyone, its not suited to everyone as our curriculum can be rigorous, challenging and requires a lot of dedication.
Our places are limited, class sizes are small and this is to ensure our students get the individual attention they need, building a community which encourages students to mix and learn from each other.
We want to make sure that people who receive a UWC education have the passion and commitment to complete it, with the motivation to apply it to change and improve the world.
How do you select students?
Each UWC national committee has its own deadlines and tailors their selection process to reflect its own culture and community but the same six key standards are used for selecting students:
- الفضول الفكري: تحب التعرف على العالم من حولك – داخل الصف وخارجه. لديك مجال أكاديمي واحد على الأقل أنت شغوف به وترغب في استكشافه أكثر. أنت قادر على التعرف على القضايا العالمية والمحلية، وتحليلها بشكل نقدي.
- الالتزام بقيمك وقيم مدارس العالم المتحد: أن تشارك قيم مدارس العالم المتحد وتظهر التزاما باتباع قواعد السلوك الخاصة بها. لديك التواضع والقدرة على الاستماع إلى آراء الآخرين وتقديرها. أنت تُقَدِّر أنه على الرغم من أن الآخرين قد يكون لديهم وجهات نظر مختلفة، إلا أنهم قد يكونون على حق أيضا. أنت تروج لقيم مدارس العالم المتحد في حياتك اليومية وتتصرف ك “مواطن عالمي”.
- Social competence: You interact respectfully with others, understanding and appreciating their viewpoints and perspectives, being able to work as part of a team to find solutions to problems. You know how to express yourself appropriately in a variety of situations and to different people.
- Resilience, self-awareness and independence: You can look after yourself physically and emotionally during challenging situations, for example, in a residential boarding school environment. You have developed good coping strategies, you are not easily overwhelmed, but you also know when to ask for help for yourself, and for others.
